Our goal is to give you a healthy, straight, beautiful smile. We understand that orthodontic care is a big decision and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel. Our practice will work with you every step of the way to make sure that your orthodontic care is as comfortable, convenient and rewarding as possible. We use the latest technology, offer a variety of treatment options, and give you the customized individual care that you deserve.

Initial Appointment

Each smile we create starts with a consultation.  At the Initial Appointment, we will meet and discuss your goals and aspirations for orthodontic treatment. Dr Derek will carry out an examination, including measurements of your teeth, face and jaw joints. Then we will discuss potential treatment options, if you are ready and suitable for treatment. There are three common outcomes from your initial examination:

  • Treatment is not required
  • Treatment is advisable, but should be delayed until dental and facial growth is most appropriate for treatment to occur
  • Treatment is recommended, and it is best to proceed now

If necessary, we will recommend a local x-ray clinic that will bulk bill you because your one of our very special patients.

Our Initial Appointment costs $150. If you have private dental insurance, a large portion of this fee is likely to be covered. We offer HICAPS facilities for convenient claiming.

At each stage you will be advised in advance of all procedures and any potential fees involved. You will have the opportunity at each appointment to discuss the progress of treatment.

Visiting Dr Derek every 4-8 weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment.  Regular checkups last between 20-40 minutes. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are scheduled around your time table. We understand that ‘life happens,’ so if you are running late or need to reschedule, please let us know, and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.

When you’re ready to schedule your first appointment, call our practice. We look forward to working with you!

Visiting the Dentist During Orthodontic Treatment

It is very important that you continue to visit your family Dentist every six-twelve months (even during your orthodontic treatment) for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure you are receiving the best care possible.
